While some believe the building of the Langevin Bridge in 1885 was where the name came from, Bridgeland actually was named after the company Dominion Bridge Company, which operated and employed many Calgarians at the time. The old General Hospital, which was opened in 1910 and demolished in the 1998, is now the site of a large condo development (The Bridges).
