Albert Park/Forest Lawn/Penbrooke Meadows
Albert Park's history dates back to 1910 when developer Albert Smyth circulated fallacious gossip that rail transit would be developed for the neighbourhood. Smyth even went as far as laying down track in the area to convince investors!
There are 16 schools in Albert Park: 7 elementary, 5 Catholic and 4 high schools. This Calgary neighbourhood sits between the south side of 17th Ave SE and the north side of Memorial Drive East. Houses in this area range from $110,000 to $150,000.
Applewood
Applewood is a newly established neighbourhood in the Calgary Southeast area. Applewood homes are situated between 17th Ave SE and Memorial Drive. There are two elementary schools in the neighbourhood: James Short Memorial on 5th Ave SE and G. W. Skene on Penbrooke Dr. There are also two high schools: Ernest Morrow on 47th St and Forest Lawn.
Chaparral
The Chaparral neighbourhood is situated around man-made Lake Chaparral, which spans 32-acres. The community sits south of the Marquis of Lorne Trail and east of the Macleod Trail. Chaparral is serviced by Maple Ridge Elementary, Milton Williams Junior High and Central Memorial Highschool. Homes tend to be in the $115,000 - $220,000 range.
Douglasdale/Douglas Glen
Embedded between the southern end of the Bow River and Deerfoot Trail, the Douglasdale & Douglas Glen communities are new and well-to-do communities in the southeast of Calgary. Kids living in this Calgary neighbourhood attend Lake Bonavista elementary and then go on to either Lord Beaverbrook or Dr. E.P. Scarlet high schools. Homes in this area go for between $160,000 and $250,000.
Erin Woods Village
Established in the early 1980s, Erin Woods is west of 52 St and north of 42nd Ave SE - close to the Peigan Trail. This Calgary neighbourhood has homes that cost up to $130,000.
Inglewood/East Village/Victoria Park
The neighbourhood that consists of Inglewood, East Village and Victoria Park is Calgary's oldest. Inglewood, which is directly opposite Fort Calgary on the Elbow River, was the centre of town before CPR built the Palliser Square rail station. This community has some of Calgary's oldest heritage homes. It's also in close proximity to the Calgary Stampede, the University of Calgary and the Calgary Zoo.
Lake Bonavista
Lake Bonavista has the distinction of being the first community in Canada built around a man-made lake. It serves as the inspiration for many of Calgary's man-made lake communities.
Lake McKenzie
Situated around man-made Lake McKenzie, this community is in between the Bow River to the northwest, Marquis of Lorne Trail to the south and the Deerfoot Trail in the east. A home in this community can cost anywhere from $130,000 to $600,000.
McKenzie Towne
A recently developed community in Calgary, McKenzie Towne is meant to evoke nostalgic feelings of yesteryear - the community has an old style town square and architecture from decades past. A home in this neighbourhood can cost up to $450,000.
