Schools in Calgary

Public Schools

Public schools in Calgary are served by the Calgary Board of Education (CBE), which cares for more than 200 schools. The CBE admits that finding the correct information for its schools can be difficult - so they've created a page to make it easier.

Even still, searching through all the information that the CBE offers is daunting. Here, we've gone ahead and searched through their website and found links to some of the most pertinent information.

The schools in the CBE system are organized into five areas - each with a website - which correspond to specific neighbourhoods and communities in Calgary. These units work together to articulate the CBE's goals for public education: planning, partnerships and resource allocation.

The CBE offers an interactive map that shows which communities correspond to which schools.

Area 1 - Parkdale Centre

The Parkdale Centre region is the quickest-growing region in Calgary, and is made up of 28 communities in the southwest and northwest regions of the city. The enrollment is over 15,000 students.

Area 2 - Mount View Centre

Mount View Centre has an enrollment of 21,000 students and serves 37 communities in the northwest and northeast of Calgary.

Area 3 - Willowglen Business Park

Caring for 23 communities in northeast and southeast Calgary, Willowglen is also the most culturally diverse. It offers a strong English as a Second Language (ESL) program as well as many cross-cultural programs.

Area 4 - Ernest Manning High School

The Ernest Manning High School region of Calgary boasts 20 per cent of the city's population. It serves the southwest and southeast regions of the city and has the highest number of single people in Calgary.

Area 5 - Haysboro Centre

The Haysboro Centre area serves southwest and southeast Calgary and boasts the highest enrollment of students in the city: 24,061.

Catholic Schools

The Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) offers students a faith-based education. The district recognizes that parents play a large role in both the educational and spiritual lives of students. In fact, CCSD sees parents as the primary educators of their children and the programs the district offers reflect this. The CCSD offers core programs of language arts, mathematics, religious education, science and social studies. In addition the program offers courses in career and technology, physical education, aboriginal education, AP, ESL, fine arts and language studies.

Private and Charter Schools

Calgary also has small, independent private schools. Not all of these schools have websites; however their contact information can be found here.

French Immersion in Calgary
